ERDENET MINING CORPORATION
In June 2016, Mongolian Copper Corporation has acquired 49% of “Erdenet Mining Corporation” LLC (“EMC”) from the Russian Federation’s “Rostec.”
Remaining 51% of EMC is being owned by Mongolian state. In order to increase public-private sector co-operation and efficiency, our representative on the Board of Directors of EMC are focused in creating investment plans and procurement policies that establish good corporate governance and best practice, while decreasing production costs and increasing profitability.
EMC is considered one of the biggest copper mine in Central Asia along with giant Oyu Tolgoi mine of Rio Tinto in Mongolia.
EMC was established in accordance with an agreement between governments of Mongolia and (former) Soviet Union. It has started its operation in 1978.
Today, EMC is fairly complex plant with capacity of processing approx. 32 million tons of ore per annum and producing around 530,000 tons of copper concentrate (approx. 125-thousand-ton copper) and around 4.5 thousand tons of molybdenum concentrates annually.
EMC has established promising collaborations with leading mining experts from Phelps Dodge, Inc.; Outokumpu Oyj, Finland; Bateman Engineering Ltd., Australia; Pacific Ore Technology Ltd., Australia; Brook Hunt & Associates Ltd., UK; KDEngineering, USA; Samsung Corp., South Korea and the World''s other mining leaders.
